The Award
The Spanish Orders History Prize is an international award created in 2017 by the Spanish Orders of Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara and Montesa.
It is currently considered by universities around the world as the most important recognition in the science of History, and the main international benchmark in this discipline.
The Spanish Orders History Award was created to extol the value of History, and of those researchers from any part of the world who have dedicated their careers to its study.
The purpose of the Spanish Orders History Award is to distinguish the researcher whose work has achieved general recognition for the importance of their studies, the rigor of their documentation and the scope of their conclusions, and that some part of his work is related to the Hispanic and its projection in the world.
There are several attributes that make it unique and that transmit the excellence with which it has been conceived: its international vocation, distinguishing an entire research career, the scientific stature of the entities that propose candidates and of the members of the Jury, and the economic endowment of 60,000 euros.
In its five editions, the Award has received more than 60 nominations, of which more than half have been international, with those submitted by American institutions standing out in number. Proposals have also been received from prestigious universities in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, which shows the wide acceptance of the Prize in the historiographical community.
The Award is managed by the FUNDACIÓN ÓRDENES ESPAÑOLAS, which in turn develops numerous social and cultural activities of the Spanish Orders, and is supported by the Fundación Talgo, Fundación Ramón Areces, Micaela Valdés of Valmenta, and the Real Asociación de Hidalgos de España.
